The New Kitchen

I was on the Gurdwara committee when the new kitchen was being planned and Gurpreet was the project lead. He dealt with builders, planners, committee members with competing opinions, and a budget that was optimistic from the beginning. He never lost his composure. When it was finally finished and the first langar was served from the new kitchen, he stood at the back and ate his dal from a steel plate and looked, I thought, quietly very happy. He had earned it.
